Saint Patrick Parish Conducts Its First Blue Mass
On Sunday, September 29th, St Patrick Parish had the honor of celebrating a Blue Mass for area First Responders. Parishioners and guests recognized the sacrifices of fire, emergency medical services, and law enforcement members from eight departments and organizations. Parishioners and guests also participated in a blessing for our First Responders.
Father Thomas Dade Conceived of the Blue Mass as part of his duties with the Catholic Police and Fireman’s Society in 1934. The Blue Mass has since expanded to include EMS services and has grown into a nation-wide tradition that is open to all. We believe this to be the first Blue Mass in our region, and it occurred on 85th anniversary of Father Dade’s first Blue Mass at St Patrick Church in Washington D.C.
St Patrick Parish would like to extend our thanks to all who made this possible. We pray that our First Responders remain safe and are fortified with strength and hope to perform dangerous duties that keep us all safe.
